Welcome to The Rhythm And Blues Soiree

(the site is under construction. Look through it and you'll see that we are merely stating the obvious)

The Rhythm And Blues Soiree is a radio show that features a wide range of r and b music, emphasizing the 1950's vocal group harmony sound, but covering the broader genre of music that both engendered that group sound, and that emanated from it. We cover blues shouters, more classic blues, soul, gospel, and we'll touch on just about anything else that makes sense in that context. Music from the forties through the sixties is most prevalent, but we've been known to play some more recent recordings, and even delve back earlier on rare occasion.

You'll find a reverence for the music tempered with some light-hearted banter that we TRY to make humorous. We'd really like you to tune in and be the judge on the humor part. But the real treat for you is, we believe, that you'll get to hear some of the best music ever recorded.

The Rhythm And Blues Soiree is broadcast Mondays, 5 pm to 7 pm eastern time, on WIFI 1460 AM, broadcasting from Burlington/Florence NJ. We also stream live at www.wifi1460am.com. You can reach the stream by clicking on the link:

Paul Ressler

(We're searching for a more evolved picture of Paul.. stay tuned)

Host Paul Ressler became steeped in rhythm and blues from the time he was a teenager taking the bus to the Relic Rack in Hackensack, NJ, as well as crossing the river to Times Square records in New York City, from that time on amassing a substantial collection of vocal group harmony and other rhythm and blues records. Not content to stick with just classic rhythm and blues, he's included many more contemporary artists whose work can be identified as being influenced by the r and b artists of the '40s, '50s, and '60s. A representative sampling of his classic r and b single artist collection can be found on Tony Fournier's vintage group harmony website .

Paul also has one of the world's leading collection of vintage rhythm and blues photographs. Photos from his archives have been used in many articles, album liner notes, and other publications.

Paul's radio experience includes many guest appearances with some of the leading r and b vocal group shows on the east coast, including Lou Rallo's Big Beat Show, broadcast from Rutgers University, and Frank Gengaro's and Gordon Skadberg's R and B Serenade Show broadcast from Hofstra University. Paul has also appeared several times on Pennsylvania's WRDV as a guest on the Sound of the City, speaking of which.......

Jim Bakay

Jim Bakay grew up in the New York area listening to Alan Freed, Jocko, and the other great rhythm and blues disk jockeys in the city. He was both a fan of the music and, for a short while, an aspiring group singer. By the mid-sixties, he had moved on to other pursuits, but, having relocated to the Philadelphia area, got drawn back into the music in the late 1980s from listening to Charlie Horner's Classic Urban Harmony show on WXPN. Before long, he landed a spot singing with the acappella group Street Corner Five and shortly thereafter, had his own radio show, Sound Of The City, on WRDV-FM. That show continues now into its twelfth year.

Jim has also been doing an internet-only webcast of this type music on Gold Radio with cohort Carl Tancredi entitled 'Work With Me Annie'. That classic rhythm and blues anthem by Hank Ballard And The Midnighters is emblematic of the music and attitude of all three of the shows Jim is involved with.
